Glassworks recently completed work on the third consecutive
series of this BBC Three show. In keeping with the
current glut of the 'switch to a healthy lifestyle' television
show genre, "Honey we're killing the kids" has proven itself
to be the highest rated originally produced factual programme
on BBC Three - quite an accolade for what for some could be
considered a scary watch.
The fly-on-the-wall documentary follows a different family
each week, specifically focussing on their unhealthy children.
The viewer is given a sneaky peek at what these kids will
end up looking like if they continue their junk-food lifestyle.
BBC Three turns out to be their saviour, laying down rules
to follow in order to increase their quality of life and ultimately
their life expectancy.
The post production process was a lengthy one for Phil and
Jim at Glassworks. Two morphs were made for each child. One
showed how they would turn out age 40 if they don't change
their ways, the other showed how they would turn out if they
stuck to the suggested new healthy lifestyle. These were shown
to the parents as a shock tactic to encourage them to stick
to the rules imposed.
Stills were made up in Photoshop of each child at key ages
between their current age and 40 years old. Phil and Jim then
used After Effects to morph between these, making a smooth
progression into the person they'd become depending on their
habits. |
