Following on from the BTAA Craft Award winning commercial
for EA Games 'Black', Glassworks demonstrate some more
impressive work on the launch of the new game 'Def Jam - The
Weapon Within', this time in collaboration with The Brownlee
Brothers and DraftFCB USA.
A mass of cells and veins in the opening shots suggest that
we're rooting around in someone or something's body. We cut
to a heart beating which morphs into a pulsing speaker, pumping
perfectly in time to the commercial's soundtrack. The 'camera'
rapidly pulls back, out of the body of a video game character
and into footage of the game itself. The voiceover states
"The beat is my weapon and I will use it... to break
you down".
The combination of building biologically accurate human organs
and fitting all the action exactly to the beat was a challenge
relished by the Glassworks crew. Using footage from real operations
four weeks was spent in 3D modelling and animating the organs
to exactly match the references from surgical cameras. It
was all composited together in Flame, creating the 'speaker
heart' and ensuring perfect synchronisation between music
and movement. |
