At the height of international concern for the environment and the Earth’s future, Ford launch their new ‘Flexifuel’ vehicle, designed to lower carbon dioxide emissions by seventy-five percent.
Unusually for a car commercial, there isn’t a vehicle in sight. Instead we’re transported inside a womb, where we witness the fertilisation of an egg and the gradual growth of a foetus. We’d be forgiven for thinking we’re watching the development of a human, but realise it is series of other mammals, first a baby elephant, then a tiny dolphin and finally twin polar bears. (This section is of particular significance, as evolution brought about by climate change has meant Polar Bears very rarely have twin cubs). The message: Ford is protecting rare species and nature’s future with Flexifuel.
The Glassworks team spent five weeks creating the fully CG twin bears. Martin shot models of the elephant and dolphin, which were scanned at Glassworks and then tracked over the shot footage to make body parts move and give each foetus life. Some movement in 2D was also created by Tom Sparks at Alteration Services. |
