Here’s a charming follow-up to last year’s Lemsip “Here to Help” commercial (see archive) brought to us once again by Ben Dawkins at love and the creative minds at Cheetham Bell JWT Manchester.

We open on a young schoolteacher slumped at her desk in despair with a stinking cold. Thank goodness for Lemsip Max daytime capsules, which leap off the shelf wielding a pencil like a martial arts expert. Never fear, this little box of tricks will fight off those snuffles! Little ‘Lemmy’ flexes his muscles and presents her with two cold bashing tablets from his box.

Conjuring up a toolkit, he finds a special switch, which he attaches to our ailing girl’s arm and turns on. The caffeine in these pills will certainly get her going! Sure enough, we cut to the same teacher with a totally different demeanour as she jogs outside to take her sports lesson. Helpful Lemmy hands across her all-important whistle and she’s off. Later that day, Lemsip Day and Night capsules prove indispensable once more by tucking her up in bed.

The post production process at Glassworks was intricate. After shoot supervision to get all the information needed for an accurate set reconstruction including the lighting and camera positions, the box was modelled and animated according to the storyboards by the boys in 3D. Lighting, shadows and reflections were matched to the real background environment. Using different rendered layers of the box Diego and Warren had the control to seamlessly embed the CG-Character into the live action backgrounds.
