Dutch Agency 'Only' worked closely with the team at Glassworks Amsterdam to create this serene commercial for NS HiSpeed trains.

We open on a dreamy Dutch landscape. In the distance, what looks like a train is moving across the horizon. As we look on, the 'train' comes into focus and flips around a plant stem. We realise our locomotive is actually a caterpillar. A metamorphosis commences, as the pupa becomes a chrysalis which transforms into a butterfly and flies away. The butterfly is decorated with the insignia of NS HiSpeed, representing the new speedy trains that will soon be rolling out over Holland, replacing the old 'caterpillars' currently in service.

The whole commercial was created using stills, and models built and textured in CG. The caterpillar was built and textured, then animated to feel natural. All the background stills were built up in CG in order to fake the correct perspective shift. All these layers were put together in 2D in order to create the basic background edit. The 3D characters and transformations were then composited onto this back plate. Some 2D morphing was also used to help the transition into the cocoon.
