Our hero joins a frosty beauty at a taxi rank in downtown LA, but rather than wait in line ... he has a plan. To increasingly curious looks from his companion, he pulls a balloon from his pocket, stretches it out, and proceeds to blow. Before our eyes, the balloon begins to assume the shape of a Smart Car, with wheels and wing mirrors popping into shape with each blow. Finally, the balloon car settles on the road, and at once assumes the physical properties of a half ton machine - no longer an airy toy. Our hero seems to have jumped the queue, and drives off ... leaving the girl attempting her own bubble experiment.

Glassworks created all of the car inflation effects using a combination of CG and Flame compositing. A great deal of attention was paid to the animation of the balloon car, so as not to reveal the gag too early, whilst still achieving all of the flourishes that make the transformation amusing. The major challenge was juxtaposing the texture of the balloon/car in it's early stages, with the 'solid' real car at the end of the 'inflation'. Back plates needed to be painted up to allow the transparency of the 'windows' to work, and detailed texture maps were generated to provide the balloon with it's final, realistic metallic sheen.
